Hands Free Mode
Hands-Free Mode is a fun and useful feature to assist in limiting the physical interaction with your Salsa by guests when initiating a capture. This feature works best when combined with QR Code sharing.
Important: Salsa’s power requirements are more significant when actively detecting faces and hands in Hands Free Mode. We highly recommend that your iPad is charged to 100% well in advance of your event’s start time. Some iOS settings may need to be adjusted for maximum power efficiency.
How to
Enable Hands Free Mode
Here’s how to enable Hands Free Mode on your Salsa:
Log in to the Salsa Web App
Create a New Event or select an existing event
Click on Configure Event
Click on the Event Interface
Toggle Hands-Free Mode on to enable
With the feature enabled, the Tap to Start Screen will be disabled. It will be replaced with the Gesture Interface screen, which instructs guests to raise their hand to start the capture process.
The Disclaimer screen is also disabled in this mode to further limit physical, hands on interaction with the booth.
The Background Screen remains customizable to provide branding during capture and on the sharing screen.

How Hands Free Mode Works
Salsa uses advanced facial and hand recognition software to determine when a guest is in front of the booth and when they're ready to take a photo.
When a guest has entered the frame (approximately 3 feet from the booth), the LED lights will transition from the selected branding LEDs to white LEDs at 50% brightness. This signals the guest that Salsa is ready.
Once Salsa detects a raised or waving hand, the photo session will begin, transitioning back to the branded LEDs and onto the capture process.
If the event does not have multiple configuration options to select from (e.g. multiple capture modes, multiple overlay choices, etc) Salsa will immediately start, and then take guests to the share screen.
While in Hands Free Mode, the screen will still respond to touch to initiate the capture process.
If QR code is the only sharing option enabled, guests will be presented with the code and a 30-second timer before Salsa returns to start another session.

Best Practices
In order to get the most out of Hands Free Mode, and further limit physical interaction with Salsa, it is highly recommended to use these settings when building your event:
Disable all Sharing Modes except for QR Code
Limit the number of Capture Modes to one (Photo, Boomerang, GIF, or Video)
Disable Gallery Mode
Limit the number of overlays to one
Limit the number of green screens to one
Limit the number of filters to one
Do not include a survey
Disable Masks
By disabling and limiting multiple feature choices, the capture session will automatically select and apply the default options you have enabled.
For example, if the event settings includes only a Boomerang with one overlay and only QR Code enabled, when the guest initiates a capture session they will not need to interact with the booth to select any options on screen. The guest will be invited to scan the QR code to share the boomerang with the overlay applied.

Power Suggestions
Hands Free Mode requires a significant amount of power to run continually throughout an event. Because of this heavier power usage, your iPad may not charge while running. In some cases, you may notice a slow battery drain. This affects all Salsa supported iPad Pros.
In our testing, using an 12.9" iPad Pro 2nd Generation (2017) with screen brightness at 100%, Hands-Free Mode is able to run for up to nine hours on fully charged battery. To extend the battery life, consider reducing the screen brightness to be between 50 to 75%.
If you are running the booth remotely, or want to check on the battery life without interrupting the event, ensure you are signed into iCloud on the device, and that Find My is enabled.
If Salsa is connected to WiFi, you can sign into your iCloud account, navigate to Find My iPhone, and select your device. From there you can view the battery life.
